Recent Experience
- Creative post-death Inheritance Tax planning, where husband and wife passed away within 2 years of each other, redirected by Deed of Variation part of the first to pass’ estate to the beneficiaries of the second to pass’ estate in order to bring the estate on the second death below £2million in order to claim the full IHT Residential Nil Rate Band on both estate, resulted in an overall Inheritance Tax saving of approximately £35,000.
- Creative post-death Inheritance Tax planning, where husband and wife passed away within 2 years of each other, redirected by Deed of Variation part of the first to pass’ estate to the beneficiaries of the second to pass’ estate in order to pay Inheritance Tax on the lowest possible value of the assets which was on the first to pass’s death, resulted in an overall Inheritance Tax saving of approximately £20,000.
- Advising clients on the reduction of the rate of Inheritance Tax payable by beneficiaries of the estate by making gifts to charity, including drafting clauses in lifetime Wills and post-death variation of the Estate to ensure that the lower rate of tax can be claimed.
- Drafting a Will for a widow who has no children of her own, to ensure that all assets which will qualify for the Residential Nil Rate Band Inheritance Tax uplift pass to her step-children in order that on her passing her estate can benefit from both her and her late husband’s full tax fee allowances.
Career History
Nicola joined OGR Stock Denton Solicitors in February 2019 as a Solicitor in the Private Client department, prior to this she worked and trained at a Manchester-based firm qualifying as a Solicitor in March 2018.
Nicola studied LLB Law at the University of Birmingham and achieved a Distinction in the Legal Practice Course which she studied at BPP Manchester.
Nicola is a full member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practice (STEP) having completed the Diploma in Trusts and Estate (England and Wales) with Merit.
