Recent Experience
Preparing a deed of variation for an estate where the deceased died without a Will. Under the intestacy rules, the daughter was due to receive part of the estate absolutely, which would have resulted in an immediate charge to inheritance tax.By varying her entitlement to go to her mother, the deceased’s spouse, the entire estate passed tax-free under the spouse exemption.
Advising a client and her daughter on the most tax-efficient way to structure the ownership of the house in which they live together.
Advising on, and preparing, an application to the Court of Protection for a client to become a deputy for a friend of his who had lost capacity.
Drafting a Will for a young business owner to take advantage of Business Property Relief, the reduced rate of Inheritance Tax through the implementation of a 10% gift to charity, and a trust to permit his spouse to benefit from the income of his estate whilst protecting the capital for his child.
Career History
Helena joined OGR Stock Denton Solicitors in October 2020 as a solicitor in the Private Client department. She qualified in the City in 2016 and then worked in Mayfair.
Helena studied Archaeology at the University of Cambridge and completed the Legal Practice Course at BPP Holborn.
Helena is a member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP).
