Dealing with commercial disputes of all kinds including those relating to partnerships, companies, property, contested probate and the supply of goods and services, Stephen also acts for clients who have suffered losses resulting from professional negligence.
Stephen has particular expertise in dealing with personal injury and clinical negligence cases being a member of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel and an accredited member of APIL (The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers). He has acted for accident victims in a wide range of cases including catastrophic and disaster scenarios, accidents at work, road traffic accidents, slips and trips and public liability matters.
Stephen regularly acts for individuals in claims against large corporations, financial institutions and public bodies in situations where the client may initially be daunted by seeking redress against such a powerful defendant, helping them with his guidance and expertise to achieve results they had not thought possible.
Stephen prides himself on giving clear advice, being commercial where appropriate so as to achieve the most appropriate result for the client and being easily contactable. In particular, when dealing with personal injury and clinical negligence cases Stephen works passionately to recover the damages that clients deserve. Stephen appreciates the trauma experienced by such victims and the distress their injuries often cause them. - Acted for a retailer in a copyright claim brought by a designer, involving international jurisdictions.
- Acted for a manufacturer in defending a substantial claim for defective goods.
- Acted for a company that had a major dispute with one of its shareholders which threatened the viability of the company.
- Acted for a client whose former solicitors were negligent, in failing to advise on the purchase of a residential property that there had been no building regulation consent obtained when an extension had been added. The extension turned out to have been built defectively and had to be pulled down and rebuilt.
- Acted for a client in a contested probate action when a dispute arose as to her late husband’s estate as his will was deemed to have been revoked on his marriage to her and dealt with claims made by members of the family.
- Acted for a client in recovering a substantial sum of money paid into a wrong account as a result of fraud.
- Acted for a victim of a road traffic accident who suffered catastrophic injuries including brain damage.
- Acted for an employee of a well-known bank who suffered RSI as a result of a poor workstation and excessive use of a computer without adequate breaks.
- Acted against an NHS trust for a client who was the victim of negligent treatment whilst in the hospital when a procedure was incorrectly performed leaving her severely disabled.
- Acted against an NHS trust in relation to a claim for clinical negligence arising from the incorrect administration of an injection causing partial paralysis.
- Acted for victims of the Potters Bar and Paddington rail crashes.
Career History
Stephen qualified in 1984 and joined Osmond Gaunt & Rose in 1986, becoming a Partner shortly thereafter. Osmond Gaunt & Rose subsequently merged in January 2011 with Stock Fraser Denton to become OGR Stock Denton LLP.
